How to Sneak Veggies into Your Morning Smoothie

It can be hard to get your veggies in every day. Did you know it is recommended to eat 2 ½ cups of vegetables each day?

I know that I am guilty of not eating that many veggies per day.

One easy way to increase the amount of both fruits and vegetables you eat in a day is by making a smoothie! In fact, smoothies and shakes have become so popular you can find them at most breakfast and coffee shops.

The smoothies you get from these places taste delicious, but they don’t always have high nutritional value. Fruit is great, but when an entire smoothie is made up of just fruit and juice that can be a lot of sugar you are putting into your body.

For example, a medium-sized Caribbean Passion smoothie from Jamba Juice has only 2 grams of protein but 72 grams of sugar!

That is why making your smoothie or shake at home is the best way to guarantee you are consuming the nutrients and ingredients your body needs to thrive.

Building your nutritious smoothie.

Pick Your Base

The base of your smoothie should be a protein powder, like VIIVA’s Organic Plant Base. This is the easiest way to make sure you are blending up a smoothie that is nutritious and filling. Protein will help satisfy your appetite for a longer amount of time.

Choose Your Veggies

Next up, time to sneak in those veggies! I like to add a fresh green to my smoothie. While any leafy green you have in your fridge will blend up well, my top choice is spinach because of its mild flavor. It gives you all the green goodness without the strong flavor of vegetables.

Another easy way to incorporate a vegetable into your smoothie without ruining the taste? Cauliflower!

Cauliflower contains antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, and is mild in flavor. This makes it a great vegetable to add to your smoothie! Pro tip: Buy frozen cauliflower to save on prep time.

Another secret for easy smoothie making is incorporating a green powder. Green powders are made up veggies and greens but are WAY less perishable!

My top choice? VIIVA’s Organic Green Power.

Each packet of Organic Green Power contains over 60 superfoods! It contains powerful veggies like broccoli, kale, spinach, brussels sprouts, and cabbage.

The best part about Organic Green Power is it allows you to include so many potent ingredients in your smoothie without having to stock your fridge with expensive fresh ingredients that always expire before you can use them.

I cannot tell you how many times I have spent a ton of money at the grocery store to load up my cart with healthy vegetables, but then have watched them go bad in my fridge. I feel so guilty every time this happens!

Organic Green Power is different from other powders on the market because it is USDA certified organic and because it is made with our unique Opti-Dry process that ensures the raw qualities of the freshly picked veggies are preserved.

Add Your Fruit

A smoothie wouldn’t be complete without fruit. Fresh or frozen, fruit gives your smoothie delicious flavor and awesome health benefits!

I love to use fruit blends from the frozen section to easily add flavor to my smoothies. My grocery store always has a mango, pineapple, and strawberry blend that is so tasty!

Pick A Liquid

Lastly, you will want to add a liquid to your smoothie so it blends up easily and smoothly. Popular choices are milk, almond milk, fruit juice, or water.

Pro tip: If you have not used any frozen items in your smoothie, you will also want to add some ice to help with texture and temperature.

Are you ready to make your smoothie? I hope you found these tips helpful for blending up a nutritious and delicious smoothie.
