Summer is my favorite time of year because there are so many fun things to do! However, I am often guilty of slacking on my workout routine in result of this.
Because let’s be honest, who wants to go to the gym when the weather is so beautiful outside!
Therefore, I think the best solution is to move my workout to the outdoors!
Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the amazing weather and switch up your exercise routine with some fun and challenging activities.
Here are my suggestions for summer workouts that will get you sweating and smiling.
This is a no brainer. There is no better way to beat the summer heat than swimming!
If you are lucky enough to have a pool, then it is extremely easy to swim some laps without even leaving your house.
If you don’t have access to a pool, check out your area for a local swimming spot. A quick google search is the easiest way to find out which public pools, lakes, or swimming areas are available around you. For example, near the VIIVA headquarters in Utah, locals like to cool off at Utah Lake! What’s your favorite swimming spot where you live? Let us know in the comments below!
If you are like me and have never tried using swimming as a workout before, this article from Women’s Healthcan be a great place to start! It offers different levels of workout recommendations based off your experience.
If swimming isn’t your thing, hiking is an amazing option to get outdoors and break a sweat! Rather than raising the incline on your treadmill, try out the real thing on a hike in your local area. Best of all, at the top you’ll be rewarded with a great view for your efforts!
There are so many reasons why you should try out a hike this summer:
- It’s free. You’ve got nothing to lose!
- It’s a great option for all ages! Choose a beginner, kid-friendly hike if you’re just starting out, or if you are feeling confident seek out a more challenging hike.
- It’s a great group activity. Invite your friends!
- You can bring your dog! Do a quick google search to look for dog-friendly trails in your area.
- Did we mention there is usually a stunning view at the end?
Biking is another fun outdoor activity that doubles as a workout. Plus, it is a great option for people of all ages.
If you don’t have a bike, lots of cities are now offering bikes for rent by the hour. This is a fun option for getting around town instead of driving! You can work exercise into your day by switching out driving for biking and still get your errands done.
If you aren’t sure where to start when it comes to exercising on a bike, check out this awesome interval workout from Health.com!
There is no better time to get into running than summer! Wake up early on a summer morning to beat the heat and get your exercise in first thing.
For me, one of the excuses I normally use not to go on a run is the weather. Frankly, if it’s too cold outside there is no way you will catch me on a morning jog. However, during summer there is no reason not to enjoy the outdoors and take a jog around the block! If, like me, you need a little extra push to start running, check out this blog post on why you should make running a part of your life.
