Five Ways to Fall in Love with Exercise

Exercise can be intimidating: walking into a yoga class where everyone is bent in half and you can barely touch your toes, wanting to build muscle mass but not knowing the difference between a barbell and Taco bell, or feeling overwhelmed with how far you feel like you have to go in your fitness journey, are just some examples. But you know what? Exercise doesn’t need to be scary! The beautiful part about exercise is that there is no ONE way to exercise! Here are five ways to help you fall in love with fitness:

1. Tailor Fitness to Your Time-Frame

I used to think that I needed to work out for at least 1.5-2-hours for it to count – not true! Exercise does not need to be a huge feat every single day. Sometimes you might feel like a two-hour run, and other days you might only have the energy for a ten-minute glute workout. Start small, do what is best for you, and listen to your body’s needs.

2. Listen to Music that Makes You Feel ALIVE!

Imagine breaking into a full sprint as DJ Khaled’s song “All I Do Is Win” blasts. If that doesn’t make you feel powerful and strong, I don’t know what will! An empowering music playlist can enhance your workout routine by making it more entertaining, boosting your confidence, encouraging you to quicken the pace, and motivating you to keep going!

3. Find an Exercise Buddy!

Exploring uncharted territory with someone who has your back makes the process easier! Find someone who supports you and your fitness goals, and you can push each other to keep going even when the going gets tough!

4. Shake Things Up!

You most likely don’t eat spaghetti for dinner every night. Why? Because your taste buds would wither away from boredom! Sometimes you want chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese, and other times you want fish and vegetables. The same goes for exercise! Create variety, and you’ll find that it becomes more enjoyable when you don’t stick to the same routine every day.

5. Find Your “Why

A “why” should be your deep, driving purpose behind your exercise. It’s okay if you want to work out in order to fit into a size 2 dress, but fitting into clothes should be a nice bonus instead of the primary objective.

Are you wanting to love your body? Do you want to develop confidence? Are you wanting to improve your mental health? Do you want to develop greater self-respect? Whatever your “why” is, let it become your force and motivation when it comes to exercise.
